Self portraiture is a time-honored tradition. Painters like Rembrandt, Van Gogh, and Kahlo documented their artistic and biological maturation through countless portraits and interpretations of their physical selves. People You Know is an exhibit of self portraits by local artists who creatively explored the idea of self and to created artwork that captures (either literally or figuratively) their own likenesses. Non-juried.
First Friday Reception:
August 1, 6-9pm
Special Dance Feature! From 6-7 pm In addition to the regular art opening VAE is proud to present seven local, regional and out-of-state independent dance-makers will present six original works exploring this idea of truth through the knowledge of the physical and emotional body. Through the use of humor, physicality, touch, or the interdependence of two beings, the artists depict their unique methods of looking at themselves and the world around them. The choreographers peer through a kaleidoscope of several truths to discover which version works best for them artistically and individually.
