Alene M. Mercer

Alene grew up in Miami, Florida. She came to UNC-CH as an undergraduate where she graduated with a BSN. She met and married Charlie Mercer and attended NYU law school and then returned to Raleigh where she was in private practice, specializing in medical malpractice defense for 25 years.

Alene recently joined the Office of University Counsel for Duke University. She has two sons, 26 and 19. She was an active member of the Junior League for over 10 years and since then have been a sustainer. She served on the board of Interact and have volunteered at the Women's Center.

While she is not an artist, nor has she ever worked in the field, there is nothing she loves more. Spending time in art galleries is her favorite hobby. In addition to visiting galleries and museums in New York, DC, California, etc., she has traveled to visit museums in England, France and Spain. Alene loves paintings in all media, sculpture, glass, black and white photography and is very excited about serving on the board of VAE.
