Jay Gates, Interim Director, Comtemporary Art Museum (CAM)
Jay Gates is the Interim Director at the Contemporary Art Museum (CAM), an initiative of the NCSU College of Design. He is Director Emeritus of The Phillips Collection in Washington D.C. and was formerly the director of The Dallas Museum of Art and the Seattle Art Museum. Mr. Gates brings more than 30 years of executive experience within nationally recognized museums to the Triangle as CAM takes its final steps to completing a new museum in Raleigh's Warehouse district.
Peter Nisbet, Chief Curator, Ackland Art Museum at UNC-Chapel Hill
Peter Nisbet, formerly the Daimler-Benz Curator of the Busch-Reisinger Museum at the Harvard Art Museum, is now the chief curator of the Ackland Art Museum at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Nisbet holds bachelor's and master's degrees from Cambridge University and a Ph.D in the History of Art from Yale University. Before joining the Harvard Art Museum in 1983, he held assistantships at the Metropolitan Museum of Art and at Yale University Art Gallery. At the Busch-Reisinger Museum he was responsible for a collection of 39,000 works of art ranging from the Middle Ages to the present and played a leading role in the reconceptualization and revitalization of the museum, leading to its relocation in 1991.
Larry Wheeler, Director, North Carolina Museum of Art (NCMA)
Dr. Lawrence J. Wheeler was named director of the North Carolina Museum of Art (NCMA) in October 1994. During his tenure, the Museum has become one of the region's and the nation's most popular and dynamic centers for the visual and performing arts. Blockbuster exhibitions, including Rodin: Sculpture from the Iris and B. Gerald Cantor Foundation and Monet in Normandy, have attracted hundreds of thousands of visitors to the Museum from across the nation and around the world. Wheeler grew up in Lakeland Florida. He has B. A. degrees in History and French from Pfeiffer College, and both an M.A. and a Ph.D. in European history from the University of Georgia.
